Hey everybody,

I took my new ruger sr9 out to the range on the weekend and I had some problems and I would really appreciate some help, at least 1-2 rounds every mag would stay in the chamber after I fired but the slide would go back to grab another round then sliding the new round into the spent round into the chamber requiring me to drop the mag, and push the spent round out with a cleaning rod, any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike.

For whatever reason, mine will do that with certain lot's of winchester white box ammo, but never has an issue with remington. Haven't figured it out yet, so i just shoot remington and have no issues. FWIW..

Never buy Winchester ammo...it's garbage! Jammed in my son's Savage bolt action .17HMR, and I've seen it causing issues in friend's guns.
Prior to making the mistake of trying a box of .17HMR for my son's rifle, as I threw 40 of the 50 rounds away...I hadn't bought Winchester's
garbage ammo since I fired at a 5 point muley buck, 10 pointer for you guys back east, at 25 yards and the morons had forgotten to put the
powder charge in the cartridge!! Pop goes the primer and boing boing runs the buck! Never going to touch their garbage again!

More than likely the rounds are loaded light (not much powder) which can cause this. It can be made more noticeable if your SR9 is new because it will have a stiffer spring. Be sure to clean your pistol thoroughly to eliminate any additional friction.

Strange, I have never had any issues with WWB. I mainly use Blazer because its cheaper but I use WWB when my local guys don't have any Blazer Aluminum.

This is not a squib problem. He is not describing a bullet stuck in his barrel.

You're experiencing a Failure To Extract FTE. Clean the gun well and make sure there is no crud under your extractor.
The SR9 should eat anything you feed it, it is not a picky firearm.
If you continue to have issues after cleaning contact your dealer.

P.S. No worries Warfarin, we're all here to help :)

Remove the slide a put a round under the extractor to see if it fits.

I have seen a few cases where the extractor didn't have enough clearance and would not allow the rim of the case to fit under. Such an extractor would cause the types of jams you are experiencing and could be sensitive to different brands of ammo since their specs seem to vary.

I second the extractor problem.

I removed my extractor and CAREFULLY deburred it and SLIGHTLY reprofiled it with very fine jewelry files. Its smooth and the "blade" is sharper and it has more of a positive angle now. Before it was more perpendicular to the bolt face, whereas now it is kind of under cut a little bit. not sure the correct term, but more of a claw and not a 90deg T. This also facilitates a bit more room behind the extractor claw should you run it a little bit dirty. Somewhere for the dirt to go without impairing the function of the extractor. the front of the extractor is smoother for ease of sliding over the cartridge case.

I also added a second extractor spring making the extractor have more authority as it were. It is a safety plunger spring. Fits right in there with the stock spring. neither spring is overly strong.

I also put in a slightly softer main spring as I was shooting commercial reloads.
