SS wet tumbling vs Vibratory tumbling

As for cheap I get and old pair wife's panty hose streached on a looped hanger over a plastic strainer and drop the tumbler right in there run the water for a minute drain and into the towel and then oven for 20 minutes..

I save the dried brass in Mason jars just like any picked delicacy :)

Ha! Mason jars? Luxury! I used old mayonnaise and peanut butter jars. :)

Got my Thumlers in the mail today and did a four hour test batch of 50 cases (7MM) all I can say is WOW! Did a fantastic job. Pulled 5 out to inspect as its midnight now but so far I love what I see! :)

Four hours? Try 1hr or 2hrs experiment next time and you might be as surprised as me. My cases came out looking the same had I tumbled for 3hrs. :)

Just picked my Thumlers up last nite a CP. LOL Got the media from Rooky here on the boards (thanks for the heads up guys).

Just want to double check with you guys on what your using with the hot water.

dish soap - what kind and how much
Lemi shim - how much ,still gotta pick some up (gonna try Canadian Tire)

Dish soap does not matter much IMHO I use 5-6 drops in a small 3 lb tumble and just a pinch of Lemi shine..

Just cover the shells with water .. I weigh my tumbler when everything is in it including the lid to make sure I don't go over the 3 lb limit..

Your mileage may vary but 1/3 water 1/3 shells and 1/3 pins seem to be the norm.. Play with the rest from 1 to 4 hrs tumbling..

Less Lemishine is better. Too much and you can leach zinc out of the brass and make it look crappy.

Drying isn't as big a problem as some make it out to be. I read about guys using dehydrators, ovens and clothes dryers, but really. .. Why?
I clean up to 800 .223 cases at a time. All I've ever done to dry them is to spread them out on a boot tray and let them sit. In 24hrs they're dry.

My media separation method is somewhat tedious, but it's foolproof and gives the chance to inspect cases. All I do is puck 'em outta the media by hand, dump the pins out and put them into a strainer for a rinse with cold water.
800 cases takes me maybe 30-45 min. to get through.

This is the same method I use. I usually have no intention of reloading the cases within a day or so of having tumbled them, as, it's a separate process entirely. I use rubbermaid tote lids, usually with my wife's off season clothes still in the totes in the basement. I just dump it all out onto the tote lids, let them dry, maybe a bit of a towel dry before hand to eliminate water spots, and, a few days later I'm good to go.

I also separate by hand. There've been a number of times I've caught what could have ended up being foreign objects getting propelled down the barrel in this matter, not to mention this is where I find failed casings typically, as, once clean, the splits tend to stand out better against the clean casing...

I haven't wet tumbled anything however since having relocated to a home with a septic system. I'm hesitant to send the dirty water down the drain, especially after having let one batch of dirty water settle out after cleaning. The amount of sludge that came out of suspension was surprising, and, I suspect it was rather "heavy" sediment wise....

At first I didn't think about it but now I wont dump it down the drain anymore either as my weeping bed is next to the garden .

The primer crud is worth worrying about, IMO. There's a fair amount of lead in there I think. Now that I don't use commercial lube any more, spent primers (and their dust) is the only thing that I'm super careful about handling these days.

i just did 4 lbs of 223 brass
5 lbs of media
6 lbs of water yesterday

tumbled for 2 hours = great results.

Originally i did

2 lbs of 223 brass
5 lbs of media
and 8 pounds of water
hour tumble = great results

i meant to do the 4lb batch for only an hour but i forgot about it haha

going to try 5-5-5 batch tonight and go from there

So yeah.. I've heard that people messing around with the water/brass balance get pretty much similar results. I think the standard recipe is probably overly generous with the amount of water it specifies. I've had similar experiences.
