Any slug, regardless of brand, designed for rifled barrel shotguns will perform poorly out of a smoothbore. You may wish to experiment with Winchester Rackmaster (among others)....that brand tends to work generally well in most shotguns.
I have a 18.5" Slugster barrel on my Mossy 500 and a fully rifled barrel on my 930. Two years ago, I was out sighting in for deer season. My buddy/hunting partner grabbed the wrong slugs off the bench and put it down the 500. It was all over the map and not consistent by any means.
I've had real good luck with Challenger brand slugs in my 500. But try to get as many Foster or rifled slugs as you can and see what works best in your smoothbore.
Sabot slugs are just rifle/handgun bullets in a plastic swage (sabot) and need to be spin stabilized to fly straight otherwise they will tumble. The Hornady SST 12 ga. slugs are a 300 gr. FTX bullet for the .500 S&W. They even have the cannelure. Foster AKA rifled slugs use a huge hollow base to push the slugs weight up to the front like a shuttlecock. They don't need to be spun to fly straight.
