Just bought an SKS ($179) to celebrate the death of the long gun registry:rockOn: and to see if the new (old) system would already work. Bought it at a large chain store and the guy didn't even phone in. Just took my info for the "green book" and that was it. Now I get to spend the evening taking it apart and cleaning all the grease out of it so I can go shooting tomorrow. Wanted to post a pic of it but can't figure out how. Oh well, I guess everybody has seen plenty of pics of these anyway. Still, it's annoying.

Make an account at photobucket.com and upload your pics.

Once uploaded when you are looking at your pics there should be an image code to the right I believe. Or when in album view you can just hold your mouse over the image and a box with various links appears one of which is IMG code.

Simply cut and paste the image code.

Oh, and what store was open on good friday?

I am sure many people will be picking up some Mosin Nagants and SKS's in the next few days!

Tinypic. Com is a good one too. You can copy and paste the image url already wrapped with tags. Also, varsol (mineral spirits) for metal and a tub full of hot water for the stock worked like a charm for me. Don't forget to pull the piston from below the rear site too.

Cheers and enjoy!

Yup.... i guess its time to change provinces to get away from kebeckistans and freedom of not registering any NR rifles!!!!
congrats on being one of the first of the new (old) system!

I got it at Wholesale Sports in Nanaimo. Thanks for the tip.:) I will give it a try, but not tonight. After a 3 1/2 hour marathon de-cosmo session, 2 cans of Brakeclean and an armfull of paper towel, there is still grease oozing out from between bits and pieces. I think it will take a few more sessions to get it all. Man that is some tenacious grease!

Thanks. I'll give this one a shot too. One of these should work for me. I took apart everything exept the trigger assembly and the pieces that are pinned to the barrel. Gonna go shoot it tomorrow!

I bet it won't be long before you Kebeckians will be set free too. It sure was nice to just show my PAL and not have all the other hassle. I wonder how long it will take me to use up those 800 rounds of ammo I got with it?

I prefer Imgur.com. No account needed, they're all about anonimity. img and bbs codes are provided for copy and paste as well.

Make sure your firing pin rattles in the bolt when you shake it, and all the cosmo and crap is cleaned out(most Important) and have atter!

I have used a pot of boiling water to dip the smaller parts to work out some of the cosmo in the nooks and crannies. Finish off with brake cleaner.

I am trying photobucket here. if it works this should be a pic of my new SKS between a Swedish 6.5x55 and an Enfield 303 to show scale of size. I'm surprized how small it is.
