Staball 6.5 powder

I have never used any staball powder but have heard from guys that it is dirty, I found the 748 like that also when I was loading it in my 22-250. I find winchester powder notoriously dirty in most of their 12ga loads primarily super target, much more so than federal topguns, AA not so much, not sure what powder they use in the super target ammo but it is definitely dirtier, the worst that I found in shotgun loads is Clever from europe, man it's cruddy.
I bought 8 lbs of HP38 (same as Winchester 231, still using it but it is dirtier than dog crap)for my hand guns. The guys tease me calling my ammo "black powder home loads" LOL.

Couldn't tell ya. Not really one to clean barrels either, like some of the guys here said. Protect from the elements, yes. Clean, meh. Accuracy certainly hasn't deteroriated in a lot of shooting.

But...interesting to see just how much gunk comes from different powders all the same

Smoked up the range with that stuff too haha

I use IMR 4350 or H4350 (not the same powders) in my 6.5 x 55, and they are loaded to modern pressures (compressed loads). Both are fairly short cut rod powders, and both shoot quite cleanly. I think that they will work quite well for 6.5 CM with a lot less soot.

They both worked well for me (Staball and the 4350s) in 6.5 CM and 6.5 Swede. With the caveat that a friend told me accuracy at distance fell off with the Staball powder whereas groups stayed tight with the 4350! FWIW!

I like the Staball (and Staball Match) because it its so much easier to just throw charges from a measure, and Staball match works equally well in 6.5 CM and .223 Rem. They're also temp stable (well, especially for a ball powder) and much more available and cheaper than 4350

That said, H4350 is the "easy button" 6.5 CM powder for a reason eh

Yes I use H4350 in my hunting 6.5 CM and it’s cleaner by far . 👍

Yes, after a good session with a revolver and even light loads, my hands start looking like Trudeau's face and there shall be a good cleaning session afterwards. By contrast, I'd never know my rifles were dirty if I didn't own a borescope. Those get cleaned mostly because the prevailing wisdom says to do so, but bolt rifle shooters calling a powder dirty should maybe try running a hundred rounds through something with a cylinder gap and find out what dirty means.

I find I t a bit dirty as well, but it does make some really good loads, especially with the heavier rounds in the creedmoor.

I found that if you increase the pressure, like if you are loading at, or near max for your rifle, it is much cleaner, that kind of goes for most powders. But is especially true for most ball powders.

Especially the HP38! And i do have a cap and ball, a reproduction of a Colt Navy in .44; I bring it out to the club, once every year or two, and let all who want to, shoot it. OK outside, but indoors, it gives an even more "entertaining" experience! Clouds of smoke and fire from the muzzle and the cylinder gap! Everyone always smiles and and laughs when shooting it. Surprisingly accurate as well. Below is a photo of my cousin firing it on our outdoor range:

Yes, StaBall 6.5 is widely described by users as a very dirty powder, meaning it leaves significant carbon and soot residue in the barrel
StaBall 6.5 cleans easily and has decoppering agents. Carbon is less of a problem than copper, by far.

And StaBall 6.5 meters beautifully, provides good SDs and is, as ball powders go, temperature insensitive.

I follow Litz' advice and clean every 200 rounds or so.

I feel like staball6.5 is cleaner at maximum pressures and dirtier at reduced
I have had the same results as you. As the pressure increases it seems to clean up. Used it in my 7/08 with the 145 Speer. The only minus with this powder IMO is it spikes pressure wise real fast. In my 7/08 I got .75 MOA with just above 3000 ft/sec.
