Stacking Ammo

Hi everyone,

Is there any issue with stacking ammo? I've seen palates of ammo that I assume to be wrapped only in cardboard. Some, like 9mm, have half height covering plastic round holders with the tops exposed, whereas bulk .22lr is loose in cardboard, and 7.62 is on stripper clips and wrapped in cardboard. Will stacking ammo packaged as such cause the rounds on the bottom be squished or affected in any way?

You should probably be okay to at least a handful of boxes high, even then there's probably more risk of the pile toppling over than the bottom being crushed.

I live in a tiny apartment, and have very limited floor space. I was thinking more along the lines of waist height.

It will be fine.

Pack it all in old wooden ammo crates or .50 BMG cans if you want to be completely at ease. That also makes it easier to organize and deal with.

+1 if you buy cases of ammo in the cardboard boxes that get shipped to stores, it will likely list how many cases high it can be stacked. but i would opt for the 50bmg ammo cans as they will also help it last longer being air tight.

Another vote here for .50 cal ammo cans.

I use a surplus plastic first aid box. Was going to get an ammo can, but this was right beside it on the shelf, less than half the price and weighs very little compared to a metal ammo can. Bought at princess auto, and it has a rubber seal in the lid so it is also air tight.
