So I have a stag 10 in 308 and I collect my brass after firing, upon reloading I noticed all the brass have crush marks at the bottom, does anyone know what is causing the problem? Thx in advance!

I have seen this as well, the ejector is marking the case head. From what I have read it can be due to overgassing but I'm not 100%. The Stag10 I've seen that does this has a tight chamber, just closes on the go gauge. It ejects brass around the 3-4 O'clock position so overgassing doesn't appear to be a problem, all fired with 150 grain bullets.

My factory stag 10 did this as well. I'm 100% convinced it is a head space issue, and something to due ejector. Why do I think this?

- I ended up buying a new ToolCraft bolt when they were on sale. 100% stopped this issue.
- I then bought an IBI barrel to replace the stock stag barrel. The stiff bolt on a line round issue went away.

My conclusion?

- I think the stock stag bolt has something I inherently wrong with its bolt face/ ejector, and the factory chamber is very tight and coupled with just loose enough head space to function.
- Serioulsy doubt it is a over gas issue.

Just my .02 cents

What is your load ? Powder - bullet ?

Gas gun operate in a narrow range of pressure and, with the wrong combination, it will look like headspace issue and ejector imprint. If you oversize- overbump the shoulder, it will do that. If you leave lube on the round, it will do that.

My DPMS SAS was doing this until I changed my load. Got better precision and 100 % function.
It is so good now, I am using Lapua brass and there is no mark on them.

looks like some pressure issues here. Are these brass with markings on them factory rounds? Or you reloaded them before? The ejector mark is one of the red-flag to look for when reloading. Not sure if headspace will cause such marking, though. A photo of fired primer would definitely help

To everyone: Its not a factory stag 10, my primers had slight over pressure signs not too bad, I will adjust my powder weight and see what happens. It's a mild load 45.0gr IMR 4064 with 150gr fmj, I did notice for a fresh loaded mag, sometimes I can't completely close the bolt, I had to recock it for the bullet to properly feed in the chamber, once engaged, I can reliably unload the mag.

quick google search and I didn’t see anyone loading 45gr of 4064. And proof is on your brass that you’re having pressure issues.

I can see from one of your pictures looking at the side of the brass, the chamber to your Stag is very rough. It’s very common in factory built Stag 10 to have poorly reamed chambers. Faxon barrels are usually rough as well. Don’t get why these manufacturers don’t do a final polishing of the chamber before sending their products out. I polish chambers almost two times a week from people complaining their gun won’t extract. After a polishing job is done, the gun won’t skip a beat.

My Nosler reloading manual say for 150fmj with IMR 4064, 43gr-47gr is the range... so I went somewhere in the middle

Most at platform semi autos I have owned do this. I’ve shot both factory ammo and reloads in a variety of calibers. I don’t think you need to be that worried. If your primers are cratering as well, then I would be more concerned. It’s also worth noting that semis don’t handle pressure the same way a bolt gun would.

I had no problems with 45 gr of imr4064/150 gr fmj with Faxon BCG/barrel combo. Hodgdon website shows 45gr max for ".308 win service rifle" and 47 and change for ".308"

I am using 45grns 4064 with a 150FMJ, no issues through multiple guns. I also have an adjustable gas block and an H3 buffer installed on my Stag and some factory and handloaded ammunition still pops primers occasionally and ejector swipes still show up. I don't know what else to do to time the gun properly at this point. Pretty lame being so limited with ammunition choices.

Maybe try a standard buffer and dial the gas back some more.... you know, when its legal to do so...while on the hunt maybe

What gas length and barrel length?

I think you are defeating the point of an adjustable gas block with the H3 and still sending too much gas back. I don't think you can really get rid of the ejector swipe 100%. The bolt rotates before ejection possibly with some pressure still on it depending on your gas/barrel length. (If its something stupid like mid length gas and a 26" barrel)

Sorry, I have had both on the gun, not at the same time though. I know that's what I said but whoops. It's close to stock aside from an aftermarket muzzle brake, trigger and furniture. Using x51 pressure ammo/loads it's not so bad but the fact I can't seem to eliminate it is disappointing.

Ya, i still get swipes. Semis are hard on brass, I was still using Lapua and Alpha brass for the precision calibers and bulk ammo for the ones I don't care about accuracy as much.

I boldly took them up higher in pressure just to verify the swipes weren't going to be a problem...I was never once nervous or wearing PPE....
