I am debating between an 18.5'' and 20'' barrel, 18.5'' is lighter and 20'' has more velocity.
For those who have chronied their loads, i'd like to ask the following...

Barrel length :
Barrel brand :
Bullet weight :
Factory or reload :
Velocity :

Thanks!

There is always a trade off more barrel = more fps more
barrel = more weight.
I have a 20" mapleridge armory 6.5 barrel and for me its ideal. Can you get a better shooting gun for the 800-1500yd with a 24"?? Ya sure but for me i can get 1.5 moa at 500m with factory cheap ammo so the extra weight for me is not worth it. I think tuning your loads will get you much larger accuracy gains than a few inches of barrel.

19"
IBI
140gr ELDM
factory
2570 fps

I've been shooting a clone of factory ammo during barrel break in and will do load dev now that I'm 150 or so rounds into the barrel. I'm hoping to find an accurate load around 2600+ fps (using 140gr ELDMs)

On my AR15 service rifle i do get nice velocities with my IBI 19’’ steacy profile barrel.
Didn’t know the 19’’ ideal lenght applied to 308/6.5 also.

MRA are selling 18.6’’ fluted barrels using IBI blanks.
The weight reduction is nice, but the real question is can i get to the killzone on deer fast enough at 400yds.

If we are talking about 308 then the velocity difference on 1.5" is like 35 fps.
Depending on your goals or intended use I'd say get the shorter barrel for weight and mobility.

I will try and update this in a day or 2 with additional load data/testing data as I don't have it in front of me.

19" IBI 308
168 grain Berger Hybrid, Lapua brass, CCI BR4 primers, Varget
Labradar used to chronograph. 710m elevation 8 degrees.
Very similar results to my Savage 10 PSR 18.5" bolt gun.

42.5 - 2517
43 - 2564
43.5 - 2606

are we sure that MRA is still using IBI blanks??
I was told by another source that they were not anymore......

Thanks for the data

400M capable hunting rig using a 2-10 nightforce scope
600M capable informal target shooting on the service rifle range, got my bolters for further down

45ACP
I will get my info straight before ordering
Huge IBI fan here, this would be the 4th barrel i buy from them.
If MRA dropped IBI, i sure hope Ryan started fluting now, even if fluting sacrifices some ridgidity, i want something i can haul in the bushes with many weight reducing choices.

ya definitely don't take my word for it and I'm not trying to stir up any crap hehehe
I was showing someone close to me a new 5R pencil .308 barrel from mra and he said he was talking with someone at IBI about a barrel and the comment that was passed on to me was "mra hadn't ordered any IBI barrels in a while".

Last I read they were only using IBI for their premium or whatever and green mountain I thought for the rest. But same here, I don't really know.
I've ordered direct from IBI a few times and been very happy.

If you'll be hauling it in the bush I'd suggest the shorter/ lighter barrel.
