A buddy has a factory assembled Stag 10 in 6.5 CM that pierces primers. From the pics of it I've seen it looks like it has excessive firing pin protrusion. It also likes to bend the FP retaining pin.

He's replaced the firing pin and retaining pin but it continues to do the same thing.

Anyone else have this issue?

Mine was doing that too, but only when I handload with H4895 (I was getting high pressure signs at min specs too) I also had this issue with hornady tap ammo. Has your buddy tried different ammo?

I believe he has tried multiple kinds but I'll double check.

Yes, he's tried many kinds of factory and handloads.

I know it's quite expensive but I'd suggest getting a new bolt just to try and getting a new firing pin spring, and the retainer also, just to make sure, but contact stag Arms, they might send it for free

Some manufacturers have started making AR10 bolts with firing pin holes reduced in size from 0.080" to 0.068" due to the higher pressure curves of some 308 rounds and 6.5/6mm Creedmoor and the like.
Maybe look for those bolts if need be. I'll be looking for one to use in a stag 10 in 6mm Creedmoor that I'll handload for.
I will also be using magnum primers with a thicker cup to try and mitigate this issue.

Just to confirm, the Stag 10 is supposed to have a firing pin spring like the BCL 102?

If so, his doesn't have one and that would explain the extra protrusion.

factory built stag-10 ?

why mess around, contact the retailer, explain the issue, these rifles have a very good warranty.

Bit of necro bump, but my factory assembled Stag 10 in 6.5 does the same thing. Originally just with reloads, but now even factory ammo. Curious if he sent it to Stag or how he got it resolved....

I cannot remember if it was the ammos primes being too soft, or they had an overly long pin, buy a couple new and try, ask arms east about it

I was using Federal GM Match primers, and just tried CCI 200. Same problem unfortunately, it really looks like the pin is too long.

You’ll need a high pressure bolt.

Basically what happens with 6.5CM is because there is a higher chamber pressure, than say a 308, the pressure is causing the primer to flow back into the firing pin hole, which is probably a standard size.

If you get a high pressure bolt (you can literally just get the bolt and firing pin, not an entire new BCG), the hole will be smaller and thus prevent that issue.

Good luck.

Thanks, that makes sense. I contacted Stag\Arms East and they're sending me a new BCG. Will measure and check if the new Bolt has a smaller diameter firing pin hole. Failing that, I'll go the replacement bolt route.
