so im down to the short strokes in picking up a Stag-10 and i had a question for people who know more than me on this subject.

i decided that since im a left handed shot and i was gonna be putting out more than $2000 id wait and get myself a left handed Stag-10.
not that it really matters because 90% of my rifles are right handed ones so its not a make or break it thing.
BUT, i figured since im putting out some good change id get a lefty.

so my question is this.
what my plan was going into this originally was to pick up a AR10 of some sort in 308 for hunting and pick up a second upper in 6.5CR later on for playing around with distance shooting.

so this is my dilemma.
there are no left handed (or right handed for that matter) Stag-10 in left hand in canada right now in 308.
BUT, there is the top end 6.5CR one in both left and right available at a few places.

so im kinda thinking about going about this backwards from my original plan and getting the 24" 6.5CR Stag-10 and then either building or picking up a 308 upper when i can find one.

my question then is this....
is the 24" 6.5CR Stag-10 worth the extra money?
they are about $2500.
compared to the base price 308 that is like $1900 and the LEV2 that is $2200.
am i truly getting $300-$600 worth of rifle?
or, should i continue to wait and get the 308 and save myself the $300?

now, i should say my plan all along was to get the 2nd upper in 6.5CR, i was hoping to get just the upper receiver then pick up a nice match grade barrel for it, so is the Stag 6.5CR barrel listed with this one a good barrel?

i guess im kinda chomping at the bit to get a AR10 and im kinda tired of waiting.

here is the vitals on the one im looking at:
Weight 11.7 lbs

Action: Semi-auto direct impingement

Caliber: 6.5 Creedmoor

Twist Rate: 1/8 button rifled

Muzzle Device: VG6 Gamma 6.5

Barrel: 24", 416R Stainless Steel

Handguard: 16.5 Stag M-LOK handguard

Receiver Material: Forged 7075 T6 aluminum with type 3 hard coat anodizing. Upper features a .210 Tang Height (DPMS High Profile)

Bolt Carrier: Nitride QPQ BCG

Hammer/Trigger pin size: Mil-spec small pin .154"

Pivot/Takedown Pin Size: .2770"

Buttstock: Magpul PRS Stock

Gas System: Low Profile Gas Block with Rifle Length Gas System

Buffer: Standard carbine buffer and spring

Trigger: Stag Two Stage Trigger with Enhanced Trigger Guard

Grip: Magpul MOE Pistol Grip

Magazine: 10rd PMAG/pinned to 5

Safety Selector: Left Hand

so, boils down to this, should i continue to wait and go with my original plan and get the 308 if and when they come back into Canada and then build a 6.5CR with a match barrel later - OR - should i pick up this top shelf Stag-10 with the 24" 6.5CR barrel for top shelf $$ and pick up or build a 308 hunting upper later?

I’ve never tried mine left handed but all my brass ejects nicely around 3:00-3:30. Depending on your grip that might work even though you shoot left handed.

My experience is with a bones, in retrospect I wish I did a full build. I ended up basically tearing the entire gun down to upgrade parts. Depending on your plan a full build might be a good idea.

Build a Stag chambered in 6.5 CM,
Get a IBI barrel, Brownells BCG, Buffer tube assembly, Handguard, raptor charging handle and your all set.
Your in at $2000 and it’ll be a better shooter than the .308 , in every way.
Get a half decent trigger, a lower end geiselle will be a good option.

Don’t get caught up in the Gucci parts as the two most important things are the trigger and barrel.

I’m left handed and built my 308 Stag from a right hand set . I then added a second stripped upper and built that into a 6.5 Creedmoor. I talked to Arms East about getting a left hand stripped upper and the left hand bolt. They are not planning on bringing these in unfortunately. Still, shooting my Stag left handed with right hand ejection has never been a problem and I used the 308 successfully this year hunting. The right hand set is also considerably cheaper than the left hand set. You can make your right hand lower nearly completely ambi with a Norgon mag release and a decent ambie safety with a smaller lever on the left hand side. Works fine for me.

I'm a lefty and believe that left ejection is a bit more comfortable and a lot safer in case of a catastrophic failure.

That factory 6.5 Stag10 rifle has a Magpul PRS stock. Depending of your idea of a hunting rifle it may not be the best choice because too heavy. And the factory .308 Stag10 (assuming you find one LH) comes with a rather heavy barrel.

For a hunting rifle under 8lbs you must build/get built your own. I'd suggest buying LH receivers set, Norgon mag catch, ambi safety and Raptor charging handle. For a light barrel look for IBI pencil profile from MRA or TSE.

the moon and star's alligned for me last night.
happened to see a post from irunguns - they had a Stag-10 left handed in stock in Edmonton with a lightweight barrel on it in 308.
i snapped that sucker up!

so looks like i got exactly what i wanted!
i got the 308 and a lightweight barrel!

now all ill need to do is see if i can get a stripped upper so i can make a 6.5CR target upper.

Congrats man!

It’s been awesome carrying mine moose hunting. So cool to hunt with a modern sporting rifle.
