I want to buy my first AR-15 and I'm debating between the Stag model 3 and the RRA Elite Operator 2, both rifles are around the same price range and I know both rifles are good. If anyone can help me to find the pro's and con's for those two good rifles, it would be very appreciated.

Thank you

I have a Stag AR and can not find anything wrong with it. Stag is considered one of the better manufacturers close behind the top of the top ARs. The support from Arms East is outstanding (not that I really needed it), I dont know anything about RRA but can fully vouch for Stag

I would say they are equal quality with ARs. But I would go stag with the lifetime warranty they have

I have used stag parts in my build and have had no problems

Stag hands down over the "operater" which is a lame name I might add.

The Stag rifles we get are done up to spec. The Sopmod wannabe stock on the RRA along with the twist rate and specs are more consumer grade. Don't get me wrong it will no doubt be fun to shoot and work just fine. The 2 stage trigger is good (Have one in a 308 precision AR). But overall I consider the RRA is more in competition with DPMS and Armalite than the Stag rifles. Frankly I would go with the Armalite over it without hesitation. Stag Vs Armalite? The Stag would win in most configurations but the price also reflects this. Again the Stag rifles we get are done up to top levels.

DD, LMT, are other options as well. The Stag is up there with these rifles. The RRA competes with DPMS.

I have 3 RRA ARs and have been nothing but happy with them. My RRAs all have the two stage triggers which are very nice. One of them breaks right at 4 lbs. The other two break closer to 5lbs. I once put close to 1000 rounds in one during a stateside prairie dog shoot without cleaning with no problems at all.
I've never really heard anything negative about the Stag either though.

I love the STAG... but.....

RRA is WAY better value for a first AR. And I would say you would be hard pressed to find a difference in quality on the Range punching paper.

The STAG has NO Rear Sight, add another $100. Upgrade the Stock, another $100. Upgrade the grip..... That $1300 STAG is not $1300.

The RRA comes with a Rear Sight, Front Folding Sight (awsome), Railed handguard....Which would be another upgrade on the STAG...etc.

I would go with the RRA. It is $100 cheaper....AND you get $300 in extras.

Well if you like the upgrades then it's a good value. Other than the trigger and the ergo grip Id want to change everything else including the handguard. I prefer the 1:7 barrel of the Stag.

If you're keeping it stock then it's a good value. If not Id look at something else or go a more base model.

If you decide on RRA which is a great rifle, be prepared to wait awhile. Waited about 8 months for my RRA with no indication of when it would get here. Eventually cancelled the order and got a spikes.

OP: I too am in the process of buying my first AR-15 and have a similar price point. Went back and forth with a ton of brands, I don't know how many times, while reading a ton of archives. In the end (just last week), I ordered a Stag 2TR from Arms East given the excellent rep of both the gun and Arms East. Now I'm waiting for the BC CFO to approve it. Days are moving real slow now....
