Stag Arms vs Rock River Arms - opinions?

I've been half thinking of another AR for some time now, and Arms East's Stag lineup certainly is appealing (especially to a fellow Atlantic Canadian!) but since I've already got a 20" Colt I'd be looking for something shorter. Since 11.5" and 14.5" are (for now at least) impossible to get new we're stuck with the 16" and unless I'm mis-reading the pix on their site it looks like all models except for the 20" version have the short gas system—and if I'm stuck with 16" I'd like a mid-length model. It'd be a little easier on the action, plus I think they look more proportional without that much barrel sticking past the handguards.

The real issue with Stag at present is the waiting list is far deeper than the supply chain, I'm very excited and hopeful about these but the Bushmasters are looking good again.

For those waiting on a Stag Arms rifle or parts, the latest shipment has had it's export license approved, and is shipping next week.

Now that configurations have been developed and approved by the DOS (with their constantly moving goalposts) supply for the next 6 months at least should be non-problematic.

For those that want to see the rifles in action, Stag Arms was just named the official Carbine and Rifle supplier to this years International SWAT Challenge, last week of March, on ESPN.

If you fancy an 11.5" AR Questar has LMT uppers with wilson barrels mounted to new Bushmaster lowers. Not many other places offering brand new 11.5" guns.

Correct if I'm wrong here, but doesn't CMT (Stag) manufacture the receivers for RRA? If they do then you might as well go for Stag, or at least their lower assembly (for the milspec buffer tube) if you're concerned about configurations. Of course I do like the RRA logo better than Stag.

Most of the major players in the industry buy the raw forgings from one of a handful of companies who make them. Everyone buys forgings, then has a machine house do the machining to their particular drawings/specs. The fact that CMT or whoever may have made the raw upper or lower forging doesn't mean that the end result will be the same. Those raw upppers and lowers will be machined by different companies and to different specifications. Some of the smaller manufacturers are actually machine shops themselves, which facilitates smaller quantity runs that they generate for their own use/sale.

STAG...

You may notice the Deers head is similar to the Colt Pony -- well same factory made the forgings...

Stag got started in the business making parts for Colt for the AR. Stag would be my choice.

My suggestion to you would be to buy a complete Stag lower assembly. With the upper you can do one of two things;
-buy an Armalite midlength upper from Wolverine
-order a midlength barrel from the US and put it on whatever upper you wish

Stag

I bought STAG both because they made exactly what I wanted and because ArmsEast is one of very few dealers in NL. My rifle is with Walter awaiting the CFC transer to me. Walter has been great to deal with and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

So what do you think of your Stag? How's it shooting?
