I have a new boyds walnut stock that came oiled. I would however like to darken it a little bit if possible. How would I do this?

I would strip the oil out of it prior to staining.
Do you know what oil has been applied? TSP will probably work, but it would be beneficial to know.

ok with that in mind, I was just talking to my father about it and he said just adding a number of coats of tung oil will darken it up a bit. I I just want it a tad darker. I was hoping to match the color of another rifle i have here and when the two are photographed together the stocks look the same color. But when your holding it the new stock is a tad lighter. What should i do?

Applying finish that has a slightly darker color and building it up with a few coats should do it... as suggested by your father.

If the stock is pre-oiled and I wanted to match another stock, I'd do as suggested already...but I'd do it on the inside surfaces as a test run to be sure. Tung oil doesn't change the color or really darken it much immediately, it takes time as it oxidizes. The oxidation takes on a yellowing effect, and when combined with the tannins in the wood, and other environmental factors such as handling, oils, dirt , etc. Will get that yellowing to a darker reddish. UV will generally bleach out the color. That's my understanding anyhow.
