I'm planning on getting a stainless 1911A1. Who makes what and who carries what in Canada? I'm interested in "Mil-Spec" USGI compatible pistols in case I'm ever in need of replacing any parts in a hurry. I'm also only interested in single stack models, not those double-stacked aberrations. ;o) Finally, I'd like to keep it under $1000.00.

I know Wolverine carries Springfields in that range. The one thing I can't figure out is the difference between the "GI .45", which is supposed to be mil-spec, and the "Mil-Spec" models. Other than the sights and grips, I don't know what the difference between the pistols is.

The Mil-spec appears to have the ejection port lowered and scalloped to allow better ejection without damaging the brass. Also I don't think the GI model comes in stainless, at least I've never seen it in stainless.
I stand corrected. The sights look better on the mil-spec.

It does come in stainless - I've seen at least one in person for sale at Gunco a while back. It's sold now though. SA, Inc. GI milspec in stainless.

It's basically a semi-customised pistol. Better sights, lowered and scalloped ejection port, beveled magwell, angled serrations, and plastic grips instead of wood. However, it's about a $160 price difference.

Springfield appears to have good customer support. My first e-mail to them was answered the next day and my follow-up e-mail was answered in a couple of hours. Better than most companies I've e-mailed for information.

I would go for the mil-spec

Yes it's looking that way, but I wonder what Colt has out there and if anyone else makes a USGI/MIL-SPEC compatible stainless model for under a grand.

I've been to Ellwoodepps.com and they have that Colt 1991, in polished "side" blue. It's sweet to look at and sweet to hold

I've also checked out the stainless mil-spec you speak about (Springfield) and they are sweet also. :p

You will not be disappointed. I have a 1911 Loaded in Parke'd finish and it's the most accurate .45 I've ever owned and shot.

Life is good.

Customer service for Para, in Canada, is non-existent...how ironic!
I think everyone would love to 'do the right thing' and buy Canadian, but it has to work both ways!
I own, and love, a Para LTD LDA in 9MM, a great gun for IPSC Production, but would recommend
the Springfield.... I have several, and they are well make, good shooters, and it's easy to get
parts and service.
By the way, I also obtained a NIB Colt Combat Commander in stainless on this site... good deal
and I'll never let it go! :D

Go for a PARA ORDNANCE and keep it in Canada!! Awsome pistol in single or double stack!!

Yeah, but I've heard their customer service sucks in Canada.

I have a personal story about that! I had my Para P16-40 Limited have the rear adjustable site go funky!! They replaced it at no charge, knowing that it was bought by some one else and resold to me. Way past any waranty!

There is a COLT STAINLESS .45 in the EXCHANGE OF PISTOLS AND REVOLVERS right now for $ 800 with a bunch of mags.
