Been eyeballing the 45-70 s&w for a while now. The black with walnut stock.
Always wondered about the metal they use. In the description it says stainless.. but I'm not 100% sold.. maybe it's just me

Are nickel and chrome coating not effective at repelling rust?

At some point you just want a gun that doesn't rust, even if silver looks cool.

If nitride or nickel or whatever is better at repelling rust I'm into it. I understand being unhappy about ceracote.

What is the cva made out of?

Well the stainless steel use in making rifle/firearms will rust if you don’t take care of it! Of all the blue steel firearms I have/had non of them are rusted and I use them outside all the time from +30 to -45 rain/snow or shine. Anyway, yes it is frustrating when they use words that they don’t understand lol. If it ain’t stainless steel then it ain’t don’t say it is!

You’ll find some “higher end” gun companies using 17-4

They’ll all “rust” corrode, even the 300 series.
I’ve decommissioned environmental monitoring wells made from austenitic grades that are completely pitted and generally “rusted” to 💩.

nothing wrong with the ruger built ones
My ruger marlin 1894 sbl in .357 has been nothing but a problem jammomatic. First one was sent away for warranty, problems identified by them with the lock, carrier assembly, loading gate, finger lever. Gravel agency sent me another rifle and it is having the same issues.... Tried with different brands of factory ammo as well. That one is going back to gravel as well.....

There are alot more types and grades of stainless steel that that chart, but it's a basic one, with the common steels.

I too believe all manufacturers and companies should have to advertise what they sell, and not be allowed to make false claims.

Also any steel that has 10.5% or more chromium can be classed as a stainless steel.

The only rifles I know of that were 100% stainless steel front to back and top to bottom were the Winchester G series Classic’s.
Rossi M92 lever actions were all Stainless steel except for the locking bars and sights.

Pretty sure the Ruger No.1 stainless was too.

Even some German rifle manufacturers painted actions/barrels in silver to make fake stainless rifles. The only part of a rifle I really want in stainless is the inside of the barrel all else can be painted/oiled/protected. My steel barrels are rusty after a few hours of wet hunt on the coast.
