Good day everyone,

I'm hoping you guys can lend some assistance. My dad isn't a gun nut and he's looking for a new deer rifle.

The criteria are:

stainless
laminate stock
under $1000
chambered in 30-06

So far he's checked out the Ruger hawkeye and the Tikka T3.

Thanks for your time!

Ruger, not Tikka. Tikka is not what it used to be. Mind you if you want your money's worth look at the Savage website. I shot one of their .270s two weeks ago at the range and the bolt action was very smooth. The rifle was a very good shooter. IMHO

Tikka if you like a smooth cycling bolt. Ruger or savage if you want to feel like you're pulling your bolt out of a sandbox. All will shoot more than accurately enough to hunt with. And for all the haters, my lowly plastic tikka is shooting 5 shots of my hunting handloads into the 0.4's @ 100 m, so sit on it ;)

As for plastic on Tikka's...my Rem 660 has a plastic floorplate and triggerguard...and the gun is 42yrs old...unless your using your gun for an axe it should be no problem...

Go Tikka. $1070 bucks.Eat Kraft dinner for a week to make up the extra 70 bucks:)
