You beat me to it. I am a Tikka fan, but the prettiest stainless laminated rifle I've ever owned was a 700 Mountain rifle.

Your Dad does not sound like he is fully committed, I say buy a middle market Savage and some middle market glass and wait to see if he uses it more than one season

I prefer Tikka T3. Have one myself, it will be hard to find a more accurate rifle out of the box. Very satisfied with it.

he's not. but i'm not going to be the one to talk him out of a nicer gun.

so far he's leaning towards the ruger but one gun he checked out had a horribly rough bolt. he's hoping that was the exception.

I agree with some of the above, skip the tikka, they may shoot but they are plasticky crap for the money. My suggestion is a Winchester weather warrior if you insist on a Tupperware stock, if you look around you should find one for about a grand!

Remington LSS is a very nice rifle. Love mine in .338 RUM.

I have a couple Tikka laminate stainless............love them. Doesnt Winchester have the Coyote model??

I do LOVE my SAKO m75 Greywolf rifles a bit more.

Since my personal experience with newer Tikka rifles has not been as good as many other owners are saying, I personally would not buy another one.
That, plus the plastic, turns me off these rifles.
The 700 Mountain is a very nice rifle, however.
The Ruger is a good solid rifle, and would be a good choice.
In the end, he should handle the possible choices, and see which feels best to him.

The Remington m700 in the LSS model is sweet too.
