stainless or blued - accuracy?

Ive heard of differences (not sure exactly what) between stainless and chrome moly barrels when the temperatures go south of 30 degrees, but other than that no. I have noticed that most stainless bolt actions feel more rough in the action than their chrome moly counterparts when fresh from the factory.

Yes there is, with stainless you spend less time cleaning it, then a blued barrel surface, and tend not to be afraid of rainstorms. So in theory you get to spend more time shooting. :p :D

I'm with Calum on this one!

You forgot one thing though, your hunting buddies can see you in the bush more easily so it's less likely you'll get shot carrying one! Confidence (in not being shot) = better accuracy

you need better (smarter) hunting buddies I think

Yeah us brave Albertans only wear hunters orange in Camp Wainwright. Not saying I push my luck by strapping antlers to my head though!

No difference in accuracy, and no difference in cleaning interval either. Treat you stainless just like you would your blued gun and live happily ever after. Cleaning your guns shouldn't be a chore, it should be pleasurable.

cuz its like foreplay, right? :bigHug:

The original belief than stainless was more accurate comes from the fact that stainless steel must meet rigorous standards and generally is more consistant in quality from batch to batch. So, it theory you are starting with a better quality blank of steel. Hence the belief that they are more accurate.

In reality, crappy barrels are crappy because of poor worn tooling. Manufacturers with a better reputation will sort out such barrels in stainless or in regular steel... others will try to sell them to keep profit margins up.
