Stainless or chromoly?

Going to order a barrel after Christmas for my Howa 1500 long action. The barrel maker prefers to use stainless but will use the other. My question is, is one better than the other? My rifle is blued but I plan on cerekoting it. I have pretty much decided on .35 whelen . What is the optimum barrel length for the cal? I was thinking 24". Thanks

Stainless 100% of the time. Have you ever heard of a Non-stainless barrel on a winning target rifle? I doubt it. They machine better, last longer, do not require any sort of finish and invariably perform better.

If it were me I would go stainless. Of anything out there I like the looks of stainless best.
