My son tried out a few adult sized rifles to get an idea of what he'd like, albeit in a youth model. He tried the Weatherby Vanguard 2, and found it heavy with an awkward baseplate, the Axis, not bad, medium weight, stiff trigger...and the Ruger American, light and nimble, a bit of roughness in the bolt action but nothing that couldn't be polished out. So it's the Ruger American Stainless Compact...it's out in March in the USA, are any of the stores here ordering it, and does anyone have any idea if it'll be here by September? Thanks!

I would bet fall at the earliest. Ruger needs to build another plant to keep up with demand. Production has been painfully slow the last couple of years. The demand for the American series has compounded the problem. When they do show up,i will be grabbing a .308 or 7mm-08 stainless to serve as a poor man's mountain rifle and a .223 compact for coyotes.

The latest I heard is it's doubtful for September, but there's a good chance you'll be able to put one under the tree this Christmas!
By the way, if you find the plastic stock doesn't turn you or your kid on too much, Boyd's will have stocks for the Ruger American centrefire rifle starting next month...as they're laminate, you can cut it down a bit to suit the shooter...
