The XL Pins work as well as the small pins for case cleaning, the main reason we wanted larger pins is that they are much easier to keep track of, and not lose. Also, we had read on several of the web sites that the smaller pins would sometimes jam in the primer pocket hole, although we never experienced this when we were expermenting with the smaller pins.
The Thumler's Tumbler with the hi-speed motor (3,000 RPM) would be my choice, also the rubber tubs - as opposed to the metal one with the rubber liner - primarily because it's easier to open or close it as opposed to the six wing nuts on the metal one.
We use a 1.66% mix of vinegar and water and a dash of Dawn or Palmolive liquid soap. (One quart of 5% vinegar to 3 quarts of water). One big trick is to not let the brass sit in the tumbler after the 3 hour tumbling session. Also, we don't rinse, just dump the brass, after seperating from the pins on a towel and shake briskly and then put in a vibratory tumbler with either walnut hull or corncob and a shot of Nu-Finish car polish and run for a couple of hours. It's not critical when you remove the brass from the final polishing, you can let it sit the rest of the night after it quits running (assuming a timer on your tumbler), only important after the wet tumbling.
I didn't mention the seperation of the pins and brass previously, any of the devices sold by RCBS, Dillon, Frankford Arsenal or others will do a good job. You do want to use a tub and not a bucket - like the Frankford Arsenal one comes with - or you will find pins all over the place. This is an area where the larger pins are a giant benefit as they weigh about 5 times more than the small ones and so generally fall down instead of flipping all over the place.
