Stainless Tumbling Media

May I ask what and where you bought? I need a tumbler as well...

I too when faced with expensive shipping charges turned to an alternative. A Lortone rock tumbler. It works very well, is easier to load and quiter. It is a model QT12, free shipping, from Canadian Treasure Seekers. They are very reputable and well thought of.

The key is to not overload the tumbler.. One pound of pins only. I use a kitchen scale and measure everything to 2 lbs 14 ounces including the top, dry the inside rim and works everytime.. Tumble for about 4 hrs for dirty cases.

Good info, thanks. I'll get looking for a tumbler....or perhaps i could just drop my brass of at your place ;)
 
I would suggest the Lortone QT12, as it has a 12 lb capacity. I use 4lb of media, 600ml water, and with the weight of the drum, balance out the brass. For example aprox, 80 30-06, some Dawn dish soap, and lemishine. The lid is very easy to use and seals well. It normally takes an hour and a bit, cleaning the flash holes and pockets like new. I drain brass into a plastic basket allowing the pins to fall into a plastic basin which the basket is sitting in just below. Rinse pins and brass air dry and you're done.

Lol.. I wanted the Tumblers Tumbler in U.S. it's bigger but the shipping killed.. I looked at how much I needed to tumble and felt the 3lb was good enough went with the Canadian site with free shipping..
 
Stainless steel is non-magnetic!

It is commonly stated that “stainless steel is non-magnetic”. This is not strictly true and the real situation is rather more complicated. The degree of magnetic response or magnetic permeability is derived from the microstructure of the steel. A totally non-magnetic material has a relative magnetic permeability of 1. Austenitic structures are totally non-magnetic and so a 100% austenitic stainless steel would have a permeability of 1. In practice this is not achieved. There is always a small amount of ferrite and/or martensite in the steel and so permeability values are always above 1. Typical values for standard austenitic stainless steels can be in the order of 1.05 – 1.1.

The cheaper grades of stainless are magnetic, and will also rust, take a look at a Costco stainless bbq after a couple seasons, they are all rusty.
