Why some prefer stainless and some blued?


What are the main reasons to get a gun in either or?

I like the look and owned both, but it must be something more that attracts people to a particular type.

To some the deep blue of some handguns is very handsome, how ever blue is a maintenance intensive finish. If the gun is used in wet or humid conditions , it is a constant battle to stay ahead of the inevitable rust spots which are sure to appear. Stainless, while not impervious to rust, is more resistant. Bluing shows holster wear very quickly, where as stainless has not finish to wear off. To my eyes, either can look good - depending on what gun we are talking about.
 
I like both, depending on the application. You can never make a stainless look as sharp as a real good blue job.

For hunting and frequent use such as handgun shooting, I believe the stainless is the way to go. In addition, a stainless barrel will last longer than a blue one. This is not based on my experience but rather on professionals evaluating barrel wear.

As an amateur collector, I would have a hard time to spend any money on a stainless steel gun for collection.

would go for the all steele, much stronger and the tight fit will last longer. and I can have it hard chrome. never like stainless
 
And I will whore a pic for the people that can't make up their mind :D though it is hard chrome and not stainless...

I am a two-tone kinda guy, a little of both or maybe the best of both worlds.....

I like stainless for the ease of maintenance and the fact that it won't show wear as easily; otherwise I like polymer :D
 
Yeah Black Nitron, Tenifer or parkerized or whatever looks pretty good.
 
I like the parkerized look since I'm emotionally scarred from my Regular Army Infantry days.... LOL

Seriously, I like the ablility to parkerize in my kitchen anytime I want to do so....
 
Any manufacturer can "do" stainless. It isn't really a finish at all. A properly blued gun has an extra level of artistry if you will, that a stainless gun will never have. Sort of the icing on the cake.

Colt's Royal Blue or the deep blue of older S&W's give them a character that eludes stainless guns. Holster wear on blued guns are also character givers. It differentiates safe queens from shooters.

I love the royal blue on my python. It's also the reason I don't shoot it much. I don't want to risk getting it dinged up, rusty,etc.
I have a stainless H&R .22 revolver that I shoot a lot because it's better suited for exposure to the elements. It's a ##### to clean though.
 
Yeah, neither is really ideal IMHO. Blackened stainless is cool, parkerized is cool too. Case-hardened steel, while not really a 'finish' in itself looks amazing as does Damascus steel found in some old shotguns. High maintenance and expensive, but oh-so-###y
