A poll for BIGREDD.... Just cuz :)

The "Stainless Finishes" always seemed to disappoint people who hadn't read the fine print, that it was a cosmetic finish, not true stainless.
Then again Stainless hasn't always been all that....so what are peoples experiences?

I had a few rifles nickel plated over 10 years ago. They still look like the day I got them back from the plater. Stainless is good, I'm gradually acquiring more stainless rifles and selling off the blued ones. Blued rifles look good but I prefer one less thing to worry about when on a hunt. I like to concentrate on finding game, not worrying about whether my rifle is rusting when hunting in wet weather.

Well this one has been done before as well Dosing... but what the heck.
When you get to a thousand posts maybe you will settle down. :p
I like stainless steel and it does resist corrosion better than blued steel.
If you let a Chrome Moly barrel rust it means stripping and reblueing... a Stainless barrel can be bead blasted if it gets worn or corroded

all 4 of my rifles have stainless steel barrels

That's your problem.....not enough rifles..... :D

Personaly, I like the asthetics of stainless; but then I'm not worried about glare or concealment issues. I haven't seen a difference in maintainability between stainless and blued, but I'm pretty anal about post use maintenance.

For me it depends on the rifle.......

My M700 looks right in SS/McMillan, but my M94 wouldn't.

No biggie either way

SC................

Stainless

I have both stainless and blued barrels on my rifles, i like them both in the way of looks but the stainless ones are less maintainence. I also will say a barrel that has been blued properly should last a good 20-25 years of hunting before it needs reblueing if you take proper care of your rifles.

i gess it is realy how much you wont to spend....
the stainless is alot more versitile you can drop it in a creek to wash off the blood after makeing the kill shot LOL i wouldent do that with a blued rifle...
talk to ya all later

Stainless all the way.

Yes, I know that you can properly maintain a blued rifle in adverse conditions, but it's more work.

I can clean guns any day I want at home, I'd prefer to hunt when I'm hunting.
