ANybody have any easy tips to get a staked nut off? Its an LMT and is staked in 2 spots. Didnt want to just crank on it with a spanner till I got some advice. Thanks for any help, looking forward to putting my new stock on tonight:evil:

I think you are supposed to tighten it a bit first (just to break it the staking), then remove it; wait and see what others say.

Those stakes keep the nut from falling off on it's own, doesn't affect the pressure to remove it much, it's just soft aluminum, turn it and it will let loose.

The barrel castle nut and the receiver end plate are both steel. It can take a little grunt to get them loose.

I have had Colts that take a tap with a rubber mallet on the castle nut wrench to break them loose.

Spanner? I had no idea you were a tea and crumpet kinda guy.....:p

yeah I have a large set of spanners at work and also keep some at my house. Use to use them alot to dial in suspension settings on my car, or for locking collars on various machines...not a common tool anymore. :bangHead:
