Stalingrad WW2 collectables

May I ask what is illegal about keeping the k98 find?

Short version-to possess a firearm of any kind including war relics one needs proper licence and paperwork for each end every piece.Rust and missing parts mean nothing-legalities still have to be followed.

In Poland this is very strictly enforced but there are efforts made by firearm community to change laws.I imagine Russians are also very strict about this.

I was always under the impression that Russia had relatively free gun laws. I guess not. Thank you.

The decoration with the crossed swords and Swastikas - what is that?

This is the Spanish Cross (German: Spanienkreuz) that was awarded to Germans troops who participated in the Spanish Civil War on the side of nationalist forces led by Gen. Franco. Those with swords were only awarded to combatants but those without swords were also awarded to civilians. There were Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold with Diamonds categories of this cross.

Heroes all. Ruhe in Frieden. What a terrible fate to be left to the "mercy" of the Soviets.
My Dad was deployed in the early months of operation Barbarossa and got transferred out in '42 for Tunisia. Didn't go too well for him after that, but way better than remaining in Russia.

Lol.. war is hell and there's lots of known cases where both sides treated opposing soldiers wrong. Torture, starvation, etc.
But Russia didnt invade Germany to start this war where 22-30 million Russians, mostly civilians, died.

This is quite debatable. There is a very interesting book titled "Icebreaker" by Victor Suvorov (a real name: Vladimir Bogdanovich Rezun; he was a Soviet intelligence officer who defected to the West). In his book, he gives pretty strong arguments/historical facts that the Soviet Union was ready to invade Nazi Germany-controlled territories in July 1941. Hitler was faster and "broke the ice" which in a long-term allowed the Soviet Union to dominate Eastern Europe for nearly 50 years. I think that in history nothing is "black and white".

You may want to look at Suvorov a little closer, in hindsight it may be that he was a disinformation agent, defecting to spread untrue information. Almost all the intell on the latest Soviet military equipment and tactics he gave us turned out to be BS once the wall came down and it was checked.

He wrote Icebreaker and his other books like The Liberators, Aquarium, and Spetsnaz (those I read), as a historian which has nothing to do with his intelligence info. The books contain pretty solid historical references. Of course, as usual, there are lengthy debates on his arguments presented in Icebreaker but so far, there is no historical research explicitly contradicting his point of view.
On the other hand, the West's assessment of the low value of his intelligence information he gave to the West could also be BS to discredit him for whatever reasons. Never believe in "black and white". All in all, the guy is still alive and well and still active in writing, giving public lectures and interacting with the readers of his books.

Absolutely! He murdered insane amounts of his own people, Slavs, Poles, Ukrainians and Germans and he is still very protected from criticism in Russia and around the world. History is written by the victor indeed. From all accounts I have read, Operation Barbarossa was very much a first swing in an imminent fight.

Of course, it's June 22nd coming ...
Putin with the country of just 140 millions, the military budget of less than 10% of the USA's, with hundreds of missile bases around his country is planning to attack NATO tomorrow ...

A hero? In 42?

Please have a close look at his photo collection ... may be there's a photo of my Grandma being hanged in July 41... for treating wounded ...
