stalk hunting

First thing to remember is the wind is my friend. One can have great camo and use unscented soap. But without respecting the direction of the wind, one can not totally cover one's scent to the wiley whitetail... After clearing a trail with a chainsaw, I went out for a little tour and I jumped one towards the end of daylight on a short stalk. the deer was about 3-400 yards away from where I was cutting. Obviously the deer felt like it was time to go, and I wasn't taking my time at the crucial moment. That's a lesson for a stalker walking into a southly breeze.

I like to say "ninja silent" become a ninja in the bush, so the deer can't hear you coming. I'm referring to the ninja's stealth, not their weapons. Don't try and kill a moose with a throwing star or nun chucks...bad idea.

I still hunt especially on days when its raining or snowing or blowing. It is much quieter and I have killed many deer over the years at very close ranges doing this.

As stated above, when you think you are going slow enough, slow down some more and watch the wind.
