A buddy picked up a Chinese stamped receiver SKS this weekend and wants to know what it's market value is.

Good stuff: Bolt, receiver cover and receiver all match and are in VG condition.

Not so good stuff: Rifle appears to have been put into a roughly hogged out milled receiver stock prior to importation. Stock has crack and split (repairable) near the wrist and does not match.

Lame stuff: Mag has been replaced with a crappy stamped 5 round assembly.

No pictures available til this weekend.

Thoughts?

I have 3 (two from factory 0138 and one from 0145). Every one I've seen over the years had a 6 digit serial begining in "7"

I've yet to see any accurate info about years of production or how many made in total but my own observations lead me to think that it was a failed experiment in production improvement.

The are seen in wood stocks and an early type of fibreglass stock which is different than the so-called "jungle stocks"

I have seen both milled and stamped receiver covers. The milled covers are much more common (stamped cover not durable enough?).

I'll post some pictures later and we can compare notes.
