I'm a total noob and there's this question that's been plaguing me for a few days since one of my friends asked me "How does a gun with a stamped sheet metal receiver like an AK etc not explode when fired?"

The receiver of many modern rifles and shotguns take little force as the bolt locks into the barrel during ignition

These rifles receiver is just a guide for the bolt carrier unlike many bolt action rifles that the locking lugs lock it the receiver itself

AR has an aluminum receiver and does fine. It's all in the design. Strength were you need it, save weight elsewhere. ;)
