I've recently taken my first 2 grouse and the stand on the wings and pull the feet is very effective but I have yet to have heard of this method being applied to other feathered game species. Is it only good for grouse or can it be used on all birds??

I used the stand and pull technique on both ducks and grouse years ago, but abandonned it for a razor sharp knife and the filetting method. There's no need to expose the guts at all.

Works on pigeons. I've tried on blubill ducks. It was an epic fail. Maybe I didn't do it right but I ripped the thing apart. Ducks are built tougher then upland game birds

Pigeons and upland birds:

I place the bird on its back in my left hand and put one wing under my index finger and the other wing under my the baby finger. My 2 middle fingers straight up the center of the back.
Then place my right hand palm down on the breast, and poke my thumb through the skin up under the breast bone.
I then loosely grasp the breast and pry the breast upwards until it is dis-lodged all the way to the wings.
Now gripping tightly what ever is in each hand twist and pull apart.

You should have a breast in your right hand and everything else in your left.

Toss the left hand stuff away. Peel the skin with feathers off the breast. Your done.

Total time 6-8 seconds.

Done it that way for years. Hundreds of birds.
My buddy and I shoot pigeons as he is from France and luvs to eat them ( I don't mind the winged rats either) I can clean a pile of them in a couple minutes.

I started to do it this way when I pulled the legs off a few grouse and then had a mess to fix up as the breast was still attached to the rest of the bird.

We tried it for the first time this year on grouse and I thought it was the cats ass. I was wondering the same thing myself!

Grab hold of your next mallard and give it a go..............let me know how it feels when your a _ _ _ _ _ e gets turned inside out!!!:D

Stick to grouse my friend......ducks and other larger birds will make you wish you'd never tried it!!

I take the legs/pelvis of the Grouse home with me, nothing being wasted but innards and feathers here.
What about the breast??

I have done this for 30+ years on upland birds. Tried it on a chicken at home and it worked as well. Never tried it on a turkey, I figure you'd have to pull like he!!.

The breast......yuck......who likes breast meat?

Seriously though......I meant that I take the legs in conjunction with the breast since the comment was regarding wasted game.

I suppose if you throw the legs away with the innards you are in fact wasting game meat.
