In the past I have loaded some slug loads with a standard crimp instead of roll crimping. They worked fine in every way that I could tell.

Is there any good reason to go to the trouble of roll crimping instead of using a standard crimp on slug loads?

Thanks,
Mark

Not really much difference, imho. I have read there is slightly less pressure with roll crimping. I mostly roll crimp my slugs for looks and easy identification. However, I do shoot both roll and crimp, and can’t say I’ve noticed any accuracy difference.

Same experience, here. No observable difference between one crimping method, versus the other. Aside from ease of identifying slug loads(roll crimp).

I've found that groups and velocity ES are more consistent with fold crimps. I committed to a recipe a long time ago and only use one hull type so identifying them is not an issue.

But, roll crimped shells, when done well anyway are much nicer to look at IMO.
