Came by this rifle at the weekend. From what I can gather its a 1933 (or thereabouts) Oberndorf manufactured Mauser converted by Israel to 7.62 caliber.

Seems to be a mix of parts. Bent bolt handle (original early Mauser's I gather should be straight bolt handle..??) and winter trigger guard. The bore is excellent.

Any views or comments by Mauser aficionados would be welcome...

Thanks....

cool rifle. Israel converted any M98 action they could get their hands on to a more or less standard pattern K98k in 7.62x51.

That was originally a commercial non military rifle as it has German commercial proof marks, maybe a target or hunting rifle before the Israelis got hold of it.

That's doubtful it was civilian. More than likely an NSDAP purchased rifle from oberndorf in the mid-30's or a post office or rail service version.

When this was made, the Versailles treaty was still in effect so it would not be marked for military service.

It has a winter trigger guard?I was under impression only those K98s that were assembled by Czechs had those trigger guards.
I'm almost sure those are Belgian proofs on receiver-not Czech.

Those K98 are really something.Very cool.

The israelis re-used there receiver and it got mashed together with K98 parts from all over. It did not leave the Mauser factory with a winter trigger guard.

It must have been somewhat vindicating to IDF forces when they picked up a German mauser to defend themselves.
" Thousand year Reich? Hah!
I hold the weapons that you would have destroyed my people with...in defense of my country. You failed and were vanquished.
My people shall endure "
And the Israelis have persurvered, that is a fact.
