Standard vs Production vs Open

Those more knowledgeable that me can correct me if I am wrong here but it can be confusing around 9mm and power factor.

9mm is generally Minor power factor but can be Major PF in open guns. I *believe* the difference is the case, Minor is 9x19 (by far the most common for 9mm) and Major is 9x21.

Most open guns shooters are running 38 Super or 38 Super comp. 9mm projectile in a bigger casing, more powder. The comp on the front helps to drive the barrel down, reducing muzzle flip. I shot Open minor until right before the freeze when I finally tracked down a 40 cal standard gun. The TS2 is a bit of a hopped up Shadow 2 in SAO. If the TS2 feels like a better fit, there is nothing wrong with picking it. With the exception of the top percentage of shooters, most of us are just out to have fun shooting. I had just as much fun shooting standard minor as I do major, the main difference now is my scores are slightly better.

I'd run the Shadow 2 in Production. It's certainly cheaper than running the Chechmate in 9major as rounds must be hand loaded and you haven't mentioned if you're a reloader. The Shadow can run factory ammo. The Shadow can also be switched to Production optics or Limited Optics by purchasing an Optics Ready Slide. It's a more versatile choice. The heat right now is pretty much in Production Optics these days with it being the division with the most competitors. Production Optics also ended up winning overall over Open at last years Nationals so the days of Open being king of the hill may be winding down.

No, you could shoot the TS2 in Standard but being 9mm it couldn't make Major power factor so would be under Minor power factor which puts you at a disadvantage as your hits on Charlies & Deltas are scored lower than those shooting .40.

Alphas are scored the same for Major and Minor power factor in Standard so if you only shot Alphas and had better times you would beat the .40 Major PF guys. Theoretically possible but not easy to do.
At least Id have fun, anyway. Maybe I can hit alphas, I'll have to push myself to find out

Yup, it would be fun either way! As I said previously I shoot with one guy that shoots 9mm in Standard and is in the top 2 every week.

Fun is important, I honestly don't care if I finish last, but I do care if my gear lets me down (preventable) or I somehow don't perform to the level I believe I am capable of (from being rusty due to lack of training due to work getting in the way for example).

Gear letting me down is really painful. I can think of two instances last year (PCC matches) where I was on for a smoking run and the gun jammed. On one of those instances it was during a reshoot, I shot the first time round pretty much perfect but the shot timer didn't pick up the shots (as was often the case with PCC), then during the reshoot the gun jammed up hard and I was hooped. Everyone working the stage apologized to me as they knew I had been short changed (no one's fault but it still stung).

Indeed, the Shadow 2 is by far the most versatile Gun in the list.

Lots of options.

That's a real nightmare! What guns were you using? CZ seems to be extremely reliable so I'm hoping that won't be an issue. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the rcmp comes back with.

I was using an FX9. That gun was an enigma. Great price point, AR15 ish enough that it felt good and with the right mods quickly became one of my favourite guns, but, reliability was sporadic at best. Just when you thought you had it all figured out it would take another dump.

In the end I sold it.

And yes, CZs are one of the most reliable guns out there. I have an S2 with north of 40,000 rounds and zero issues (it did break a slide stop but that is par or the course at around 30,000 apparently so I wont hold that against it :D). From all I read I suspected the time was coming and had another slide stop on hand.

And, as an added bonus, if you wanted to have a easy-ish semi auto PCC you could pick up one of these:

Here's my take.
First, thank your friends. They are incredible for offering up some fantastic guns that are now irreplaceable.
-TS2. Great gun. But shooting minor with our mag limits, I've seen more people suffer than thrive against those shooting major PF in standard division.
-Czechmate. Fantastic pistol once you feed it the right ammo. But you are basically handloading for 9mm major. Yes you could shoot minor. Trust me you will want major to make that comp work. Got to run one for several matches and I see why open division is so addictive. You get to FLY with that gun. But high performance also comes with reduced reliability, loose screws, dead batteries, broken sliide stops and more wear on parts.
- Shadow 2. My choice. You can buy your own barrel, slide, put an optic on it. Holosun 507c, Trijicon RSO or a Vortex Defender XL.
Compete in production optics. Get some of the fun and speed of open division with regular ammo, compete in the new cool guy division and put a little less wear and tear on your buddies gun because you own half of it.
Again, you have some good friends.
