Standing Offhand CHALLENGE

I'm a little surprised by the .308 barrel, but I guess I shouldn't be. .307 diameter pipes had a run of popularity in DCRA rifle and surplus ammo way back when. A quality bolt gun shooting 7.62 x39 or '54R makes perfect sense.

Most 7.62x39 milsurp bullets mike around .309, commercial anywhere from .308 to .311. Naturally, .308 bullets are most accurate in this barrel.
The key is using a properly throated reamer for a .308 bore. It has a longer freebore. Bill Ruger figured that out when he first designed the M77 MkII and Mini 30's with .308 barrels. The surplus bullets just leave the case before engaging the rifling.

Fellow CGN'r Ganderite used a .307 bore for his surplus testing. Take a look at his sticky thread in the Red Rifle section.

CFBMI a man can try can`t he?

On the volunteer program I may have good use of your services, what are you doing from Sept 1 2016 until about Nov 30 2016?

Judging by this last field season, during that time I will be struggling to stay warm in a hobo camp.

I thought I'd jump in on this challenge last week but thought it was 5 rounds, not 7. Will have to get out soon and try again.
