Stanley Park coyotes cull

Just set up a concession at the entrance to the park that gives every walker a 4 ft. stick and tell them to whack any coyotes that get close enough. I bet they would learn to avoid humans very quickly. Although, they might just learn to avoid humans carrying sticks. They're not stupid. ;)

They avoid me whenever I'm carrying a rifle.

Are they poisoning the coyotes.Controlled and monitered baits removed during daylight hour and close park to pets until program is over.

the problem with the stanley park coyotes is Stupid People LOL
I'm surprised they are going the cull route instead of setting up "Safe Feeding Sites" similar to the brilliantly stupid ideas behind "Safe Injection Sites"

the stupidity of most of humanity never ceases to amaze me.

I haven't read or watched any news on this other than here on cgn but I hope they are hiring professional hunters to tranquilize and euthanize these animals as humanely as one can without using a bullet. Should be pretty easy to do with the night vision availlable these days and doing it at night keeps things discreet.

As boys, we discovered that about magpies at our Uncle's farm - always "right there" if you exited the barn, a shed or a granary barehanded, or even carrying a pitchfork or broom - not there at all when carrying a pellet gun. Came to have pellet guns at most every doorway in most every building - would then get a shot, without having to step outside... And that was just a "dumb" bird!!!

I have seen Ravens do the same thing. I swear I remember them swooping away if I pretended to being a rifle quickly up to my shoulder back on the farm as a kid. Fantastic birds, honestly. Watching one grab food out of a kid’s hand up on the rock bluff on Dog Mountain is a thing to behold given the size of their beak. Always one hop away from the cliff edge.

They are using snares..........
Rob

Saw a note that said they got four. So they culled a couple of the brain dead...

I'll still say that a couple good ol' boys with a silenced .22 and a mini-van, should be able to manage that almost every night.

Unless things have changed, a person cannot own a Silencer/Moderator/Muffler/Whatever, but a "Legal Entity" still can, which is to say that Joe Mini-van cannot own one, but Pest Control Inc., Joe mini-van's company, can. If he can make the case that his Company can use it safely and effectively.

I was wondering why all the fuss on this. A few COs with some nvgs and a suppressed rifle with the right ammo, and they could probably cull these down pretty quick. If the COs aren't up to that task, then plenty of folks from the interior could do it. Day to day management if you're in the farming business.

That'll work on the dogs too.Poison stations would work better as it would also get rid of the coons too.Rabies outbreak years ago and the city employees were instructed to spray them with super soakers.Dumb treehuggers.

Not Stanley Park.....but years ago I took someone to ubc hospital to see a specialist. Downtown ubc....because there are probably only 100 cities larger in kanada, no parking, parked blocks away...walking right by McDonald's......Coyote walked right down the sidewalk past us. Fifteen years ago, across from Canadian tire, right by the credit union, Powell River, 3pm on a school day...500 lb Black bear waddling down the concrete sidewalk.

An actual uncontrolled pandemic would see most cities dissolved into habitat in three generations. A blink in geological terms.

i think you re out of line for the generations ... look what happened only 10 years after chernobyl or fukukoa ,,,...
