Wondering if anyone owns or perhaps has shot a Star Model B?

I like the idea of owning a piece of history & also something that can shoot readily available ammo

So thoughts or impressions of the gun?

Spanish firearms have a reputation for being very low end. No parts or mags (They only look like 1911's.) and Star Bonifacio Echeverria went out of business in 1997.

Hey Sunray, you got one? Ever shot one of the surplus Model Bs? First hand experience?

OP, I've got one of the WW2 surplus ones and I like it. The Russian's tore them down and refurbished them, then re assembled them without much concern for enduring the original parts all matched. Mine appears to be made from two different guns given the serial number combinations.

The build quality doesn't seem bad at all. Metal is nice. No stoppages. 1911 parts are NOT compatible.

I did a bit of looking around on the internet, and the results seemed favourable. I say go for it, the price is right. One thing I remember, make sure it is the 9x19, not a slightly different chambering (Largo?). That might not have been the "b" model.

I bought one from Weinerjack. It looked so good I thought it was new. But my gunsmith says it has been reblued. I guess it had some holster wear.

A nice gun with a very good trigger.

Russians refurb'd them after gathering the up from the Bulgarians. Bulgarians changed sides from the a German Axis to the Communist regime before they got invaded in WW2. They had been axis, and got guns from Spain, as did Germany.

Germany used the Spanish B for secondary units and police at home.

Cool thanks guys, I think I'll buy one what the heck... $299 for anything that shoots 9mm seems like a deal to me

Star Model B....

I've had a couple Model B's. Having been a 1911 fan for ~ 30 yrs now I was very impressed with the first Model B I ever owned. It shot circles around the Colt S80 Govt 9mm I also had at the time. I actually regret selling that first Model B.

Quite a few years later I acquired another one, not as nice condition, and missing the grips. I sourced some plain wood ones for it. It shot well.

I currently have a 'compact' Star Model BM.... I like it a lot.

All the Stars I have owned have been well made, functional, accurate & reliable.

They are not a true clone of the 1911. Spare mags can be a bit of a pain to source.

I bought one from frontier a while ago. I haven't shot it much but I like the history behind it. For what they cost go for it.

I had a modelo-super B about 25 years ago. Tightened it all up as a match ISSF gun, odd things the firing pin retainer was a vertical pin under the rear sight so made installation of a Bowmar a difficult job. Found that the recoil spring was the same size as the S&W M52 and as a match pistol light loads were good with one of those. Machined down a King 9mm bushing to fit the slide and the accuracy came up to acceptable levels. Sadly I sold it, want it back, so anyone that finds a " Super B" with a Bowmar sight and a horizontal roll pin retaining the firing pin, let me know, eh?

cheers Dr Jim
