while at SHOT 2011, I briefly spoke with some good people from the SCTP, which is itself part of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF)
The idea is to teach safe shooting to youths still in school. There are chapters n most states and several other countries, but not Canada.
They said that they are interested in doing so, and have discussed it before.
Would anyone out there like to make contact and try to set up a program here?

I am not a shotgun guy myself (not competitive anyway, just a "plinker"), so it would make more sense for someone with all the connections to step forward.

I know a guy who is doing something similar in the GTA but through private schools. Public schools were resistant to anything involving the shooting sports. I'll pass this along to him.

We looked at the SCTP program a couple of years ago in Ontario and the only place it might work is in a private school setting. We also tried to promote the ATA's current AIM program in Ontario, which went over like a lead balloon.

Hi there, we have had some sucess with the Boy Scouts and have approached 4H and cadet organizations with good sucess. You may have more luck with these types of organizations than the schools.

Great junior trap program in Manitoba! Not formally affiliated with AIM or SCTP though. The Junior Provincials each June is one of the biggest trap shoots in the province.
