What is it going to cost me to get set up with the equipment to begin reloading my own rounds? I would want to reload 40 smith and 9 mm pistol rounds and 7mm rem mag, and 270 rifle rounds. I am still a rookie at this sport and I am trying to figure out if it is worth it to get into reloading. I don't mined spending the money if it is worth but I want to get an idea of what the start up cost are going to be, equipment only. Not including materials like, brass, powder etc.
Thanks for you imput

Lee aniversary Kit
trimmer
vernier
tumbler
few hundred brass, ( 2 rifle cals)
few hundred bullets ( 2 rifle cals )
2 Lee rifle die sets
2 thousand primers
4lbs of poweder

Including taxes I'm in for a little over $650. But I've included components to keep me gong for a while.

Remove the tumbler and the trimmer and you can save close to $200 on this.

Warren B & Fixit have both givin you some nice lists..... I like fixit's better, I too use mostly RCBS... any time I try something else it always lets me down. Lots of people swear by the Lee, me I swear at it.

As warrenb says you can save on start up if you skip the Tumbler and the trimmer.... but it aint worh skipping, just get them.

You will want the tumbler to keep your equipment clean and in good woking order.....

You will need the case trimmer eventually, maybe not on the first session reloading but by the third you may and by the 5th you will need it.

Good luck and Be Safe!

Bare bones, your looking at around the following:

$120-$150 for the dies
$150 for the cheapest kit available

I use the Lee challenger kit and it works well, I added on some items which either sucked or were not available (ie, lube pad, better deburring tool, powder trickler, tumbler, digital caliper, reloading trays, etc)

Maybe bank on another $100-$200 for additional equipment. Also, plan on spending at least $300 for components, at least.

While, I am not at all regreting the purchase of the challenger kit, I might of opted for a turret press in light of my new handgun obsession.
