Styer m9. Its in 9mm but its really good.
If you really want 45 get that canada ammo deal. Norinco 1911 with 1k of 45 for 500. Cant beat that.
Good pistol to start with and if you sell it down the kine youll get your money back for sure. Not sure of its still in stock though.
Seeing that you wont get your card for a while get someone else to buy it for you.

As someone that didn't want a .22 as my fist pistol either, I regret not buying a .22 pistol sooner. I had a few guns in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP before getting a .22, mainly because they were "cooler" guns. I ended up getting a Ruger MKII and it is absolutely awesome to shoot and cheap! Also, it was very rewarding as I shot it much better than any of my other pistols.

This gent gets it..

I'd recommend a Ruger .22 as well...not expensive to buy [esp. secondhand] and dead cheap to shoot.

If you _must_ have a centerfire pistol, a good 9mm is probably your best bet. Ammo is relatively cheap and recoil is mild enough that you won't have to struggle to learn to shoot it...not much anyway. I'm an M&P fan, but Glock is fine...also CZ, Browning, Beretta...lots of quality 9mms out there.

OTOH. if you keep an eye on the EE, I'll bet there will be a bunch of Norinco .45ACP 1911A1s showing up real soon... ;)

If you want an inexpensive .45 there is no better deal on right now than the CanAm one. If you don't want to wait keep your eye on the EE. If it was me though, and I wanted to start with a .45 I'd go for a STI Spartan.

If you are set on .45 ACP, the Norinco 1911 + ammo deal from Canada Ammo is the best deal as others have suggested. If you are looking for a revolver, the Ruger GP100 is a gun for the money. And you have the ability to shoot .38 spcl and .357 magnum.

I've a 9mm Norc, 9 X 23 Steyr-Hahn, .44 1851 Navy C & B (Pietta), a 357 mag Colt (Pietta)SAA, 3 colt DA/SA revolvers; a 41 LC & (2) 38's.
A few others but not anything worth mentioning.
My favorite? 357 SAA. Lots of bang in a 357 mag but pretty casual in a 38. Not semi so it simplifies things on several levels.
I had a .22 lr in a long bbl'd Ruger MK 1 growing up, spooky good shooter. Used to shoot across the coulee at a chalky rock the size of a feed sack, 200 yds away( it was 35 years ago and a local LE sergeant was the original owner and present...doesn't mean I'd do it now, just gives some context). 1 or 2 ranging rounds and hear the ricochets begin.
Get good with a simple or small pistol. Then get exotic.
IMO
Stay safe
