Back to the research board since I had to bail on the most recent planned purchase. I have time now I guess but there are so many options it's hurting my head.

You can find a good used Howa for $500. Add something like a Leupold 6x from the EE and Talley mounts and you are good to go.

I,d get a Winchester 70 or a Browning A bolt.

There is a TC Icon in .308 (Huge Fan) on the EE right now for $750 and cabelas has the vortex viper bdc 3-9x40 on for $320 right now. This would be a great combo, one that will last a lifetime. Plus in my opinion this gets you above entry level gear. If you do your part it will be impressive at the range, and a great all weather big game rifle.

Was looking at the AB3's as Cabellas has a combo pack with a entry Nikon scope..

Mind you I've also been looking at the Thompson compass, replace the stock and grab a decent scope maybe?

there is nothig worthy of the amount your looking to spend.
You need to spend 3k before you will find what you are looking for.
Seriously though, WSS was blowing Flamboes out the door a couple years ago and those guns where and are a good deal.
Cryptic message, maybe but hunting season isnt over yet and to get guys frothing at the mouth during the season well just isnt news worthy.
