Starting a modest mauser collection,?

A book to pick up on the Swedish Mausers if you can find it is "Crown Jewels" By Dana Jones.

Combine Crown Jewels and Ball's book and things get a bit testy.... I'll show myself out.

Although I don't consider myself very knowledgeable on Mausers, I do have a few. Some of them are quite nice, and some are really nice. I also have some "run of the mill" Mausers. I will say to any new "collector" that you do not necessarily have to feel obligated to hold out for the holy grail, mint, out-of-the-crate, one-of-a-kind Mauser.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing some research and sorting out which ones are more sought after. There is nothing wrong with the Russian Capture rifles. There is nothing wrong with a "scrubbed" VZ24. Learn to recognize the different variations and little, seemingly insignificant markings. Don't presume anything about a rifle until you have done your due diligence. As you trudge along the path of research and study, you will be absolutely amazed at the array of Mauser variations.

I guess my gem of unsought, poisonous advice is to have money available at all times. In my younger days, I bought guns while my friends were buying snow machines, going on expensive holidays, etc.. Some of those "old war guns" turned into valuable assets, plus all the enjoyment I've had in owning, and in some cases, shooting them. I love showing my guns to people who are interested.

Whether you have 5 or 50, you will be started on the slippery slope of Mauser collecting!! Enjoy!!

Don't forget the South American contracts, when in excellent shape they are absolutely beautiful rifles.

The absolute best Mauser deals IMHO.
You can get a "brand-new" 100 year old rifle with serial # matching bayonet for $1000 or less.
That's a bargain if you compare them to the beat to hell K98s., or just check the late Enfield or Garand prices, and you will have to agree.
