Get a bolt gun
get it in 30-06
Savage package rifle will start you off well, later get a better scope. You can pick these up on the EE or just order one. They are inexpensive but highly serviceable rifles.

I'd vote for a 308. Gives a larger margin of confidence over the 270, I believe.
