Wanting to start up in IPSC, just picked up a Beretta 96G EliteII for production and need a good rig suited for the EliteII. Any suggestions? Don't need anything highend, not serious at this point just want to participate for fun.

Get a Blade-Tech Dropped Offset Holster (DOH) and a couple of Blade-Tech double mag pouches.

You could also try the Uncle mikes (doublemag carriers). Blade-tech holsters have to be made and there can be quite a delay at times. Also you will need a stiff belt to hold all of these components. It makes a difference when you are trying to draw from the holster or mag pouches.
Safariland, Cr Speed, Jr. all have good stiff belts (2 belt/velcro system) around $50-60.

Tac-pro & Wilson Tactical assault holster

I have the tac pro - because I needed something relatively quickly for a 92 Brigadier LH. Not particularly adjustable and rides high off the belt.
The big advantage with the Wilson is that it is lined so less friction/wear on the frame/slide.
The blade-tech DOH is really to best in class.

Forget the wilson combat. Might as well get an uncle mikes.

Buy a Speedsec5 CW from Frank at Club de Tir Montreal. The Speedsec is the best holster, and it has the lowest price. Sweet.

If you plan to shoot in the states, by all means get a Blade Tech. Nice holsters. USPSA Production compliant. If you're shooting in Canada, why would you buy a $1200 gun, and then cheap out on the holster?

Oh, and why did you go .40 instead of nine?

CR Speed holster & belt, or Ghost holster & Cr Speed belt. CR Mag carriers are good as well. For my Beretta I use CR belt & holster with uncle mikes carriers.

If you want to keep it cheap, Bladetech DAO, uncle mike carriers and CR Speed belt. This is the rig my ex used. She ended up as armed security for our PM, so it didn't hinder her.

A plus point of the DAO is it protects the gun, you are elss liekly to bump into things and marr the finish.

Don't buy a hogue powerspeed, the magnets sit on slide serrations and don't adhere very well. Mine was binned after it dropped the gun twice.

i must admit the DOH is the fastest kydex holster i have used...the DOH attachment makes drawing much smoother and relaxed.

cr speed belts are excellent, you can get them from the Canadian-based IPSc store: www.ipsc.org (down the list, under Store/Equipment). As a new shooter, there is absolutely no advantage to getting a 'race' holster, get the DOH Bladetech, and you'll have a perfect balance of quality and affortability. Mag pouches are more important, get a couple of individual adjustable ones (like the CR Speed Versa, also available from ipsc.org) and a couple of the cheap double ones (assuming you won't want to get all individual adjustable ones). Most of the mag changes happen in the first 2-3 mag pouches, so have nice ones there, the regular double plastic ones further back on your belt for backup in cases of emergency ;)

I prefer the Wilson holster over any of the other full coverage type holsters. Although the Drop Offset is nice too. But I run a Ghost, purchased from Wild West Shooting, in West Edmonton Mall (Kanada Kidd)

Really like my Wilson holster + JRP (mag pouches)+ CR speed belt. Great combination.
