They are classed as restricted firearms, so you will need to get your Restricted License and join a range. You can only shoot it at approved ranges and must follow the proper procedures when transporting it to and from ranges. You could build your own approved range on your property, but it's a huge undertaking.

Buy the M14 since you know you want it, then get the AR in the future. It sounds like most guys progress to the AR eventually, but you need that M14!

I just bought my first, used. Picking it up Saturday morning! I say 'first' because having more than 1 will ensure I retain my manhood.:D

You won't find any M14 mags on EE because I will get them first if they come up! :D I joke, and imagine I will drop the $ to buy as many 5/20's as I need when I purchase my rifle, which I intend to do before the end of this month.

I share your excitement to try this, and will keep track of what you post here regarding your setup. I hope to see you on the range someday, will be easy to spot the guys with the .308's!

I have about 29 rounds of once fired .308 brass, half of what went down the bore of my (your) M305, if you want them. 19 casings of American Eagle and 10 casings of Prvi Partizan. The remaining 31 were lost in the snow at the local range. She's about as used as a day old pillow.
