Hey Guys,

I'm hoping to start shooting IPSC in Alberta as soon as possible, but I need to get my belt rig up so I can get on a BB course. I've got a Browning Hi-Power that I'm set on shooting, so I'll need a holster for it. I've looked at leather and kydex holsters, but Kydex is particularly hard to find for a BHP. I'm also installing an extended slide release safety from Cylinder and Slide. Will those parts affect my holster choice?

Does anyone have experience with Buy Brown holsters (http://www.buybrownholsters.com)? I'm interested in one of their Kydex belt holsters, but I'd like to know if it would work in IPSC. Or, for leather, would the Avenger (http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterG3.asp?ProductID=103&GunID=23) work?

Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully I'll see you at the range soon.

Hey Rob

Finally going over to the dark side by taking my BB this spring Where do you get Guga Ribas mag pouches and will they fit CZ mags?

Take Care

Bob

I recommend Blade-Tech for starting out. Go with a 'Dropped Offset Holster' (DOH)

You can get them from 2 Alpha in Montreal i believe they are the Canadian distributor. I am not sure if they will fit CZ mags though.

The new Guga pouches come with a series on inserts to allow use with anything from single stack mags to wide body double stacks...

They're by far the the most versatile Mag pouch on the market...

Not cheap...but worth every penny

They are very versatile. I use them for my HK mags. A little on the heavy side, but they can be mounted two different ways, and are adjustable for tilt, cant.
You need to have them attached to an outer belt.

The DOH bladetech is what I would be using if I hadn't bought the Speedsec. The Bladetech follows the KISS rule. The speedsec needs to be locked to holster / unholster. If you forget to lock it after you unload and show clear, you may find your pistol on the ground. :)redface: )

Before you spend serious money on a holster, I'd suggest getting the cheapest thing that works for the BB course.

Very few people shoot IPSC with a BHP, and you MAY decide to change guns shortly down the road. This is not a problem IF the holster you choose will work with a variety of guns (like CR Speed), however if you get something that works only with a BHP, you may be left holding a white elephant.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's all helped.

I think I'll go with the BladeTech DOH. It looks great, if I can get one. ivan, I appreciate the advice. I bought the Hi Power because I liked the pistol, and I figured I'd give it a try in IPSC. If it doesn't work, but I really like IPSC, one of my future purchases will probably be a 1911-style gun. I'll definitely keep the BHP no matter how I like it for action shooting.

I find the inserts for the Guga Ribas mag pouches useless, they are too thick to work with double stack mags like Beretta, Sig and CZ, so I just tighten them down without the inserts and it works fine, except for one of my pouches, it's just slightly looser than the others.
