I remember a few years ago the US authorities were not issuing permits for exports of rifles with "assault" features, like flash hiders, 14.5" barrels and telescoping stocks and other such non-sense.

With all of the different ARs now that I see on the market, am I correct to assume this is no longer the case?

I ask because I want to import a Colt SP2 Carbine from the USA. I want to use Irunguns.

Thanks for your advice.

Colt SP1 Carbine has a 16" barrel. As of last fall the State Dept. relaxed the rules. They basically came to the conclusion that if it legal in the export country then you are allowed to have. You can export Class 3 SBR now. But remember rules always change, so get it well you can. The last restriction lasted for over two years.

Thanks for the concrete answer.

Why hasn't someone capitalized on this? Last I checked, there's a lot of WTB ads of people looking for serious collector Colt carbines (out of production etc.).

I can't be the only one interested in these guns..

Because you still need to fill out the paperwork on export.

One of the things you have to agree to as the registered end user is to fill out all the same paperwork if you decide to sell it. The US State Dep. has the power of veto on the transfer.

Most people that decide to export these types of firearms are more than willing to pay the $250 for the exporter to handle the paperwork.
