Static Issue with electronic scale

So my Lyman XP1000 scale tends to go out of sync., and according to Lyman it's due to static build up. They say....take a paper towel with Wyndex, take apart the scale including battery and wipe it all down. So I tried it and it does work, but not for very long....I can load perhaps 25 bullets before the scales tend to start hoping around a bit. I don't want to spend more time screwing with the scales than loading the 25 bullets.

So...Goggled anti static build-up and the information that I found said purchase an anti-static cloth....try find one. I called my high-end stereo guy and asked him about static buildup, and he said forget all the cloths, static guns, gadgets, etc. just use felt.

So is anyone using a sheet of felt on the reloading table and what are the results? Is it eliminating the static in the scales?

The felt would have to be conductive, and it isn't in the general case.

Try wiping the surfaces with a Downy fabric softener sheet. Will work longer than Windex.

I have looped one around my powder measure from time to time; you attach the clip to a ground, like the metal face of a power outlet (it should be grounded).

What is tyhe humidity where you are using your scale? If the humidity is low, static will build up quickly. Yous should have a RH of 40 t0 50% to help reduce static. Just a thought.

I know this works for funnels and stuff but I wipe them down with a bouce sheet.(smells good too.)

Google 'Anti-Static Mat'....we use them on the electronic benches. Static is the enemy, but if you're grounded, this will all go away

Take the mystery out of reloading, buy a RCBS ChargeMaster!!!!!
Or use a Lee dipper, almost as accurate.

In photolabs, we used negative ion generators.
Bionaire makes a very good item named Bionaire 2000: it shoots a stream of negative ions in the filtered air flow.
No flying dust and zero static charges.
If you like plants, ferns and some spider plants are living ion-generators. Hang some in your reloading area.

Bench is made from a sheet of melamine, which normally won't conduct static.

I don't know if it would work or not but you could get an anti static braclet and wear that as you reload, just rub down your scale (here come the laughs). You should be able to pick one up at The Source or somewhere similar.

Acklands Grainger website. I dont know why but online it lists the price at $173 but in the 2011 catalog it lists the price at $52.94. Maybe go in to a local branch or Bumper to Bumper and see what they can do for you.

Not Near Other Electronics

No...no other electronics that would interfere, I made sure of that before I started to load.

Wipe it down with a Bounce dryer sheet. I bought a new powder funnel that held such a bad static charge no amount of moisture would stop the kernels from clinging to it. Wiped it down with a bounce sheet and 300 rds later... still no static.

May Have Solved It

So I picked up a 24" x 24" anti-static mat from SMI Electronics for $35. Found a ground connection (won't be my final choice for grounding) and then set up the electronic scale. Lo and behold, sat at zero for 5 minutes or more.

Next time up for a reload I will find a better ground and then see what happens. Sure would be nice to stop screwing around with the scale every time I want to load powder.
