I've had a bunch of 1911s Norinco, SAM, Taurus , Sig. over the years never kept them too long each one had something I disliked, so they all got sold and I kept on shooting tried and tue guns like glock, cz, beretta 92 that evaded the choppint block and proven themselves worthy of the spot in the safe. Then I got Dan wesson 1911 9mm a little while back and find myself not enjoying other guns as much, which now don't seem that accurate or smooth shooting... I guess I'm a 1911 guy now :cool: maybe it's a maturity thing lol but probably others just weren't as good and just didn't do it for me.

I've had a number of 1911's over the years. A couple of them were accurized by a gunsmith friend and they were what I started out with in 45 acp for a centerfire in some of my early years start in competition. A number of Gold Cups were in the mix over the years as well. Then, a few years back, I 'lucked' into the 1911 cream of the crop of any I've ever had. A Kimber Custom Shop Super Match II with all the trimmings. The trigger pull is like that of a double action S&W revolver on single action. Like breaking glass!! This one is a keeper!

The V8 sucks more gas and the 45 is at least 60% more expensive than 9mm. I rather drive past the gas station and shoot more with a 9. But that's me.

Both 1911s don't take up that much more space in the safe than just one. Similar logic applies to the third, ...
 
I know the feeling. My brother has a Dan Wesson 1911, its very accurate and just shoots so well. I have a Ruger SR1911 and its an awesome pistol, but it’s no Dan Wesson. I put my Ruger on EE, I will likely buy a Dan Wesson if it sells. As for a 1911 in 9mm, they are awesome to shoot, much cheaper then a 45. I prefer 1911’s in 45 ACP, but I too will eventually buy a 9mm 1911, why not have 1911’s in both 45 ACP and 9mm.

...but you're shooting 9mm, how can you call yourself a 1911 guy when you're shooting 9mm? Verily JMB turns in his grave!:stirthepot2:
 
The only reason I own most of my 1911s is because it's so easy to buy extremely high-end guns, Wilson & Nighthawk for example. As a design I can't say I appreciate them any more than a simple Glock or CZ pistol. From Norinco to Nighthawk I have never had as many stoppages with anything as I have with 1911s.
 
I'm with you guys. I lucked out at an auction years back when a Colt Series 70 Government in 45 ACP, that somebody had tricked out for competition, went up for sale. It was a gift price-wise and when I got it out to the range I found out the only thing wrong with it was it needed a new extractor. Couldn't have been easier to fix.

The pistol has a bit of a freaky sight on it. It's made by Bo-Mar and it extends 1" out past the end of the slide. Not complaining, though. The extra length on the sight plane definitely improves my accuracy.

To this day, it's the smoothest, most accurate, most reliable pistol I've ever shot. That's why it's my home defence gun.

I didn't pay what the gun was worth, but now that I know, I would in order to get one.

Hmm that's a good point! Hahaha

I chose 9mm to keep things streamlined as I got rid of other calibers for handguns and currently shoot only .22 and 9mm. Life is more simple that way and I get to shoot more.

Im with you on this I have a .45 not a 1911 but either way I dont shoot it nearly as much as 9mm mostly due to ammo cost and availabilty. I just recently bought a higher end ($4100) Staccato 2011 in 9mm however and its my favroite hand gun I have ever shot and I feel like John Wick shooting it coming from mostly striker fired Glocks. 2011 grip fits my hand like a glove, and the thing shoots so flat, I haven't wanted to shoot any of my other hand guns since getting it.

I also just ordered a V6 twin turbo Hybrid to replace my V8 pickup truck lol
 
I had a Colt Combat Commander that was head, shoulders, knees and toes above any other 1911 for fit and trigger. A real pleasure to shoot.

And it was in 9mm, the calibre the commander was designed for :)

I have both... It isn't 2004 and 45ACP isn't 10$ a box anymore. My 45 ACP barely get any use. I did find a couple mag worth of 45, which I shot it last week. But probably haven't shot it in over 2 years. I think it was like 25$ for a box of 45ACP last time I bought some. Since getting a CZ Shadow, I barely even shoot my 9mm 1911.
 
.45 ACP and anything else off the mainstream is a big win to be reloading. 9mm can go either way, depending on the price of a case of bulk factory ammo, the price and availability of primers, how sore my arm got last reloading session, and how recently I've been torqued off by dodgy range-floor brass that gave me a jam to clear.

If you're into competition with the 1911, the main games seem to be IPSC Classic division and SASS Wild Bunch. And the two sort of book-end the range of different 1911s out there: for WB a near-original-trim .45 that looks like they did when JMB was still around, while for Classic Minor the ticket is a slick 9mm with a tasteful set of modern tweaks that fit the rulebook. Between those two sits the history of the 1911. Add a 2011 to shoot IPSC Open if you really want to push onwards.
 
1911 in 9mm is blasphemy. It sounds like none of you guys reload. I load 45acp for about $175/k using drg 225 lead bullets, winchester primers and tite group. I can load 45 cheaper than 9 because I still have a source for cheap large pistol primers. I am paying double for small primers compared to large
