I always presume when someone on here makes a regional reference without adding any more information they’re from Ontario. Hopefully this time it’s Alberta.

Go hunt and like Longwalker says enjoy that extra zest having a suspected apex predator around provides. A place is dead without its apex predators, be happy they're around.

Although, so help me, after 20 years here I do actually say Howdy to people.

Likely won’t, but hope you do too. There are an awful lot of big cats in Alberta anywhere there’s deer, but in the years I spent there I only ever saw one- from across a valley through glass. One Albertan member here posted fantastic cougar pictures he’d taken a few years ago, can happen, just have to be luckier than I am. Then again a couple years ago a guy got in a fist fight with one in the Whitecourt Tim Horton’s parking lot.

We have at least one cougar living in the city limits here in Red Deer AB down by Kerrywood Nature Center since the early 90's.Thinning out the urban deer for sure.

Sundre was a hot spot for a while, urban deer make urban cougars.

Do you have any trail cam pics of the supposed cougar in and around pigeon lake??? There are no cougars in Ontario according to the OMNR........except the ones at your local tavern. Id be more inclined to believe it was a black bear than a big cat.

Sorry I am assuming Pigeon Lake in Ontario. If elsewhere please disregard my comment above.

The MNR here is wrong, there are some in Ontario, Ive seen one about three or four years ago, and have spoken to others that have seen them as well.

Since there are so many buggered up rules and laws about defence and using a gun......I remember talking to people I can not mention who .....but I was told this
If you do go in to the bush .....make sure you carry a knife ...with a blade that is at least !!! 7” long ....he told me if you can find longer even better!!!8...9”!!!
They told me that yes you will get mauled but a 7” knife thrusted into the body of any animal will make it get off you and run like hell .....and when the authorities come to investigate its an open and shut case ....because you had to go to hospital and get help
And no charges will be laid
