I have a Samsung S8 and just bought a Steal Cam V30NGX and it came with a stick that you put in the charging port to read the files that are on the card you put in the stick.
I can't get it to work. I don't have a clue and YT videos are not helping.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Samsung s8 uses type c connection, does the card reader have the same or is it micro usb?

You may need an adapter to make it plug in, it would look like this and it would adapt the reader to fit in your phone.

If you got your phone new, it should have come with one (im pretty sure)

It takes both, 2 slots. I have an unlocked full size card installed.

Do you have a desktop or laptop to try it with to see if the card works on those? (To tell if its a card problem or a phone problem or the otg reader itself). Plugging the sd card directly in to the computer, if it works try plugging the sd into the card reader then plug it into the computer via the reg usb.

Took case off phone, no light on reader.

Okay well since you have your case off. Can you power off your phone and pop your phones micro sd card out and put in the trail cam sd card and power your phone back on and see if the pics show up in your gallery then? That would at least let you know the card or cards are working and then its the reader or your phone detecting the reader is the issue.

Or do you only have the full size sd cards?

Nothing happens. If you swipe down it says usb connected. Swipe down again disconnected and back and forth. I appreciate your help but maybe the reader is fubar?

It could very well be, but without anything else to test it on its hard to say for sure. Same with those big sd cards, it would be good to try them out on someones computer to see if they are the issue maybe.

I'm starting to think that this card reader may have a faulty C connection on it. It does the same thing on my wife's phone however the USB connection on the reader works fine in my digital picture frame

Ok well now youre getting somewhere! Im wondering if its something in the phone that needs to be setup. But from what ive seen the newer samsungs should be plug-n-play and not need a setup for a card reader (i know my old samsung 5 i had to select mass media device when it would plug in and it didnt know what to do with my card reader).

After further research I believe I need an OTG adapter or cord to interface between my phone and the card stick.

Both your phone and your wifes phone would have come with a little usb adapter that allows you to plug a microusb device in to your type c connector of your phone. If you still have one then you could plug the reader into your phone via its microusb port.

If that doesnt work (cuz you know the usb works on your photo frame) then it is either a bad type c on the reader or something screwing with your otg settings in your phone which could be caused by 3rd party apps.

But from what ive seen, the s8 should all ready accept otg with just anything using the type c connector.
